A Brief History of Phoenix Orthopaedic Consultants
What began as one colleague helping another in need, has evolved over three decades into the orthopaedic surgical practice that is Phoenix Orthopaedic Consultants. For thirty years, we have served and continue to serve the citizens of western metropolitan Phoenix. When Dr. Joel Fisler became seriously ill in 1976, he asked friend and colleague, Dr. Joseph Gimbel to help cover his fledgling practice while he recuperated. That cooperation lead to a merger of the two physicians’ practices when Dr. Joe’s brother, Neal finished his orthopaedic residency and moved to Phoenix. Arizona Orthopaedic Surgeons was the product of that union and was based at what was then the new, modern Maryvale Samaritan Hospital and John C. Lincoln Hospital. It was in 1981 that Dr. Marc Rosen joined the practice and Phoenix Orthopaedic Surgeons was born.
With the retirement from surgical practice of its founders, Phoenix Orthopaedic Surgeons became Phoenix Orthopaedic Consultants. This was not only a legal name change and reorganization, but also a return to our roots in the west Phoenix area where the practice began and, where all of our efforts are concentrated today.
With the demands of our rapidly growing population, the practice has evolved into a multifaceted, subspecialty-oriented group, mirroring a nationwide trend. Today the specialty of orthopaedics is a highly technological field and our expertly trained members reflect the diversity of our profession. We possess subspecialty skills in trauma, spine surgery, sports medicine, adult reconstruction and joint replacement surgery. We are community leaders in the integration of technology into our practice of medicine with a sophisticated electronic medical records and digital imaging system. Some of our members are also leaders in healthcare on the local, state, and national levels. We have been recognized in local and national media. Our first priority however, has always been and, will forever remain, the care of our patients.
