Dr. Khera is originally from Corning, NY. He completed his medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C.
Dr. Khera trained as a resident of University Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine at the University of Cincinnati Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Khera won the resident-nominated best graduating chief award. Other training sites include Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, as well as Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Dr. Khera completed his spine fellowship at the University of Rochester. Worked alongside Dr. Kenneth Fine and two orthopaedic surgery residents on a project entitled “Effective Osteoporosis Education in the Outpatient Orthopaedic Setting.” Collected data (via questionnaires) on the current osteoporosis knowledge of women who visited the orthopaedic clinic at GWU. A brochure was then given to each participant educating them on osteoporosis and its prevention immediately after they filled out a questionnaire. Follow-up questionnaires were then given to the participants and results were collected in order to identify any improvement in daily activities (diet, exercise) in regards to osteoporosis prevention.

Upward Bound is a program designed to give promising inner city high school students an opportunity to further challenge themselves academically. Time was also spent counseling some of these adolescents who were dealing with a variety of psychosocial issues.

Worked alongside attendings and residents in order to meet the various orthopaedic needs throughout the entire hospital and in the operating room of this Level 1 trauma facility. Mastered many orthopaedic skills including casting, splinting, assembling various types of traction (including halo vests), and crutch/gait training. Also gained a tremendous amount of knowledge in reducing a variety of fractures. On the orthopaedic floor, other needs met included physical therapy/ambulation for post-operative patients, dressing changes/wound packing, basic patient care (changing bed sheets/assisting in bedpan use), and functioning as the unit secretary.

Received this award in recognition for my contribution to the Fairfax County Court System and Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization. Provided orthopaedic trauma injury education to teens who had been convicted of reckless driving, speeding, and/or DUI in Fairfax County. Part of their “reality” tour included the INOVA Fairfax Hospital where I provided them with education about common orthopaedic trauma injuries and the treatment options for such injuries.
Personal
Avid motorcyclist who rides solo and with groups. Mechanically skilled with a strong fund of automotive knowledge who spends a lot of time repairing/tuning/detailing cars and motorcycles (self-taught skill that has come from several years of repair work). Can troubleshoot and repair anything that does not require a lift. Car and racing enthusiast who has attended various auto racing schools and developed a keen sense of car control at high speeds. Plan to pursue an amateur/hobbyist auto racing career in the future. Deep interest in a variety of music and movie enthusiast.
